Chamonix & the Mont-Blanc area are generous to skiers, be they beginners or experts. There are twelve different areas spread over four cardinal points of the valley which are linked with a superb bus service which is included as part of the Ski Pass Mont-Blanc, Chamonix Le Pass or Mont-Blanc Unlimited lift pass. The Ski Pass Mont-Blanc lift pass gives you access to 13 resorts in the area which include Courmayeur, Les Contamines, St Gervais and Megeve while the Chamonix Le Pass & Mont-Blanc Unlimited pass is valid on the lifts of the Chamonix valley. The area offers snow qualities to suit all levels; cross-country skiing is also catered for with a 42Km network of trails suitable for all abilities. The nearest ski lift to Le Chalet du Lac is just 100m away at La Flégère.
re (1050m - 2450m)La Flégè
1.5Km above Chamonix in the village of Les Praz a modern cable car whisks you to La Flégère on the south facing side of the valley. From La Flégère there are a variety of pistes and trails with exceptional views of the Mer de Glace and the whole of the Mont-Blanc range. There are wide sun-soaked gullies just waiting to be skied by skiers of all abilities from the complete beginner to the outrageously adventurous. There is also a link with Le Brévent lift system.
Le Brévent (1095m - 2525m)
On the sunny south facing side of the valley close to Chamonix town center Le Brévent lift system offers a variety of pistes where all skiers, what ever their ability, will find runs to delight them. The surroundings are majestic; this is a remarkable natural belevedere. The summit of the Brévent offers a panoramic circular view of Mont-Blanc, the Aiguilles peaks of Chamonix, the Fiz massif and the Aravis mountains. There is a link with
La Flégèrellift system.Les Grands Montets (1230m - 3300m)
This prestigious ski area, partly on glaciers, has an international reputation because of the extent of its routes and trails spread over three different bowls. The length of the trails and the exceptional vertical (3,300m down to 1,200m) combined with the exceptional snow quality throughout the season make it a must for skiers and snowboarders alike.
Wide & open spaces for beginners & intermediates, at the top of the valley overlooking Le Tour. Excellent sun & snow records. Open in recent years a new lift, Les Laisson, which opens up the area above Vallocine with some outstanding trails, new Red runs and excellent off-piste as well.Le Tour & Col de Balme

Tim's top tip! Ski passes can be purchased at the various tourist offices and lift stations in the valley. My advice to visitors is to go to the Chamonix town center tourist office to where there is a Photo-Me machine, as you will need a photo when buying your lift pass if it is for 4 or more days. When buying a pass you will be offered ski insurance in conjunction with your lift pass, CARRÉ NEIGE, at a daily rate of around 3.50 & less for children. This is the ideal compliment to an European Health Insurance Card (the passport to free or reduced-cost emergency medical treatment in most European countries - available free at UK post offices) for UK citizens. CARRÉ NEIGE must be bought at the same time as your lift pass or alternatively you can buy a 365 days CARRÉ NEIGE for around € 50.
